The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce the details of the Spring Season of our lauded World Symphony Series (WSS), running from 24th October to 14th November at the Linder Auditorium. The Season opens with the highly-anticipated Spring Gala Concert, jointly performed by the Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestras.
The Gala Concert features two internationally recognised artists. Acclaimed conductor Marcelo Lehninger has been praised for his natural musicality and intelligence, combining technical perfection with a high-quality sound which brings out the spirit of the music he is conducting, and celebrated pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason, who is captivating audiences with her dexterity in performance and interpretation.
The remaining three concerts are led by accomplished conductors Rebecca Tong and Rory Macdonald. Soloists include violinist Soyoung Yoon who has been hailed as one of the greatest violinists of her generation, internationally celebrated pianist Olga Kern, and the dynamic duo of violinist Daniel Rowland and cellist Maja Bogdanovic.
Repertoire for the Spring Season includes favourites by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Mendelssohn and Chopin, as well as widely performed works by Dvořák, Brahms and Bruch.
